Jesus-Centered. Worship-Based. Presence-Focused.
Our Values
Worship
We gather first and most importantly to worship Jesus! He deserves all our worship. We also recognize that worship is the landing pad for God's presence, and where His presence is, people are transformed.
Creativity
It is Jesus's beauty that attracts souls to Him. Various forms of creativity can be used to show our devotion to Jesus and reveal Him to the world.
Taking Church to Those in Need
Our focus lies in bringing His presence directly to the people, recognizing that the true essence of The Sound transcends physical structures.
Active Participation
Transformation takes place when we rise up to be the change. We want churches, ministries, and individuals deeply connected, partnering, and participating. Individuals are encouraged to contribute however they feel God is leading them!
Encouraging, Unifying, and Strengthening the Body of Christ and Beyond
We are intentional to both strengthen, unify, and partner with the local church and other Christ-based organizations. We value, love, and honor the local church and body of Christ. It is because of the strength of the body of Christ and its members that The Sound has continued each year and grows!
Fostering a Festival-Like Atmosphere
In our annual events, we want to create a culture of joy and celebration! Our festivals are meant to be fun, family-friendly, and create space for us to display the beauty of Jesus to the world!
Culture of Honor
We will respect and honor our city, the park, and the workers enforcing and upholding regulations and laws. We want to leave the place cleaner than when we came! We want the city workers to experience and receive God through our honor and love. We do not want to create a hostile or hateful environment but be rooted in love and honor in our approach to the City and those who attend.
Our Story
Chris Burns is the founder of The Sound. He is a worship leader, preacher, author, recording artist, and revivalist. He is marked with the call to see the presence of God invade people’s lives, homes, and entire cities. Chris and his wife, Danielle—along with their children Jude, Mila, and Elisabeth—live in New Orleans.
In 2017, Chris and Danielle Burns organized The Sound in San Francisco, CA. On a word from the Lord, they moved their family from Ohio to San Francisco, believing God would release a national awakening of new Jesus People. These Jesus People would be Musician Missionaries* who would take their songs and testimonies to the open-air places, streets, and public places of America and beyond for a massive harvest of souls! Every day of the entire summer of 2017, worship gatherings happened throughout the city. It was truly the summer of love songs to Jesus. It culminated with a national 3-day gathering in San Francisco.
Now, The Sound is organized, carried, and grows through the local church in San Francisco. Every year, the body of Christ comes together to worship Jesus and see transformation take place in our city outside the 4 walls of the church.
*The Jesus People movement was a unique combination of the hippie counterculture and evangelical Christianity. It first appeared in the famed "Summer of Love" of 1967, in San Francisco's Haight-Ashbury district.
*Musician Missionaries spread the gospel of Jesus through worship.
